IFTH, the French Textile and Apparel Institute, a true technological centre at the service of the industry, acted as Project Manager for the Measurement Campaign for 5 to 70-year olds, whose results were published in 2006. The campaign offers a range of solutions to develop new products or processes for the different markets: Apparel, from fashion to personal protection; Transport, from automobile to railway; Health, from hospital products to consumer health and safety issues; and Building, from decoration to civil engineering.
The objective was to measure a representative sample of the French population throughout France. 11562 persons (men, women and children), from 5 to 70 years of age, were measured.
According to the results of the French Measurement Campaign, the morphology of the French population has changed. In 36 years, women have become taller (from 160.4 cm to 162.5 cm) and shapelier (from a size 38 to a size 40). Men are taller (by 6.9 cm) and heavier (+5.4 kg).
